Most of the time when I have lots of time to write in my journal, it's because:
  • I don't have enough going on in my life.
  • I'm too sick to deal with whatever is supposed to be going on in my life.
Either way, these are less-than-pleasant situations.

I realized folks reading my LJ who don't know me well enough or in person might think all I do in person is whine, moan, and complain and never joke around. Um...when I'm out joking around and getting stuff done, I'm usually too busy to update my journal.

In person, I'm very proactive. I like getting things done. Not getting things done drives me nuts. When I can take action to fix things, I do. When I can't, I complain because it's all I can do.

Hence, when I'm updating my journal, it's often because I'm not up to getting much of anything done, so....

I think that is a very commmon tendency with lj.
Same with mine in fact. Exept that I now try to remind me to write posts, too, wehn something positive happends, or not much happends at all, just the sun is shining.
Ok. I know you live in California, to write everytime oyu have sunshine probably woudl look boring, but...

I don't think you are a whiner, I think you are a hard working courageous individual. We all have frustrations and if venting in LJ helps at all, then I can't think of a better use for a journal.

I sometimes wonder if people think all I ever do is whine about how horrid I feel. At least one person has suggested that this is the case, actually, but it's someone who doesn't know me very well anyway.

No. You talk about your job, your life, and your writing. You've been feeling worse than usual lately, but you've just had surgery!!!!!

Honestly, it's mostly the CFIDS that's bugging me, and that's been the case since late in 2002. Dusty leaving kicked it off and it's just been one stress after another since then, even when I'm happy.

You are not a victim! You are a survivor!

Thanks for clearing that up.

I've not been keeping any stats. What is the ratio of your frustration posts to your accomplishment posts? Let's hear more from (with apologies to [livejournal.com profile] maedbh7 since she used the name first) Accomplishment Woman!

BTW, it's been way too long since I've last seen you in person or in action. (When was the last time? FKO 5, 9 years ago?)

Thanks for the "Accomplishment Woman" compliment. I am somewhat frustrated with myself right now because I'm not getting stuff done, even if it is due to illness.

Could be. I was at Torcon, but I didn't see you there. I wanted to go to FKO to support Dr. Jane, but my finances were way too tight.

I haven't been to an OVFF in over a decade ($$$). The only reason I've been able to do GAFilk is it comes right after an annual massive influx of cash (me working holiday hours like crazy). Beyond that, I've mostly been hitting West Coast filk and regional cons and Worldcons these days.

Reminds me of :

'Writing'

A man who keeps a diary, pays
Due toll to many tedious days;
But life becomes eventful--then
His busy hand forgets the pen.
Most books, indeed, are records less
Of fulness than of emptiness.

-- William Allingham

p.s. I can testify that you're great fun in person :)
