On my Windoze box (XP Professional), Thunderbird suddenly lost all my folders in my IMAP mailbox. I've tried tweaking the profiles, editing the profiles, deleting the .msf files from the profiles, and deleting and re-creating the mailbox -- to no avail.

How can I get Thunderbird to access all my folders again? They're still on the server (it's a Linux-based IMAP server and I've got shell access).

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Update:

When I go to "subscribe" to the folders under my IMAP folder, they don't exist, even when I click "refresh".

I have tried removing and recreating my mailbox to no avail; it still comes up as if the folders don't exist when I try to "subscribe" to them.

You need to "subscribe" to the folders again.

File... Subscribe

The problem is bigger than that. When I try to "subscribe" to the folders, they don't exist.

It's gotten even worse. When I try to start Thunderbird, I get the following error message:
Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system.
This would be fine if I could find an existing "thunderbird.exe" process in the Task Manager's list of processes, but I can't.

I figured out how to get rid of that error message. I had deleted the .msf files in my profile, but I hadn't deleted the profile.ini file. Deleting the latter enabled Thunderbird to start.

If you can get it to start, then (in theory) you can now right click on an account, select Subscribe... and then hit Refresh to make it rebuild the list. I've had it take a couple times to do so. Can you tell if it is successfully connecting to the imap server from the bottom-of-window messages?

I can't tell. It's reading the mailbox, and it's finally acknowledging the Trash bin.

It seems to be connecting to the IMAP server enough to get the messages on it. I just can't PUT them anywhere.

I seem to have tickled a Thunderbird bug, but none of the "solutions" I've found for it online have helped.

Check your task manager and kill any tbird processes still running.

Then wipe out the msf files again.

I already did that.

The only folder it's showing me as a possible subscribe-to folder is Trash.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. What I had to do to fix it was to go (in Thunderbird) to Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings | Advanced and remove "[Gmail]" from my IMAP server directory.

I don't have a "[Gmail]" entry to remove.

I hope I'm not asking a "well duuuuh" question, but is Courier or whatever imap server you're using on the Linux box running? That's where I would expect to see problems connecting to the IMAP structure.
