...and make a prediction re: the Presidential election.

I have been saying for months that if McCain were to select a female VP candidate, he'd win the election.

I stand by that statement.

This has nothing to do with anyone's political preferences, including mine. I am making this prediction as a journalist.

My logic: Barack Obama's VP, Joe Biden, is male, thus alienating the folks who voted for Hillary Clinton because they wanted a woman President. Many of Hillary Clinton's supporters felt alienated by Obama's choice.

Many of these Hillary Clinton supporters are so desperate to see the "glass ceiling" shattered they'd vote for anything female on a ticket, no matter what her viewpoints were. Now that they have their female on a ticket, many of these former Clinton supporters will vote for the Republican slate, mostly to have a woman only "a heartbeat away" from the oldest Presidential candidate ever, exclusively because of her gender even though Sarah Palin's viewpoints are very different from Hillary Clinton's.

I'm not saying you're wrong about significant numbers of female voters scrawling their X for any candidate withe two X chromosomes. Given her obvious total lack of qualifications to inherit the top job from a man who'll be, what, 77 of he lives to complete his first term, it's a hell of a thing to say, but it may be true.
First though, we need to take a step back and remember that W Inc. STOLE the last two Presidential elections. Yes, the Repulsagains needed to get enough support to be in a position to do so, but that is what happened. Never mind that the "respectable" mass media don't want to admit that this is what happened, or that a lot of people find it just too horrible to contemplate that such a thing could happen, not in Mexico or in Zimbabwe but in the good old USA. I'm giving the readers of this blog credit for being able to look an unpleasant fact in the eye without blinking.
That being the case we should ask ourselves two questions:
1) Can the McCain/bimbo ticket get enough votes to make an official winning count plausible?
2)Can the Repulsagains on the state and local levels muster the manpower and organization to diddle this election?
Given that they couldn't do the second in the midterms after the disorganizing and demoralizing effects of six years of W brand incompetence, color me guardedly optimistic.

in the south i am concerned that the right to vote will be stolen from black americansw again, as it is in florida every time. they use road blacks to make it hard to get to teh polls, then tell people the need 3 forms of id, or they take their names off the roles because their name is *similar* to a felon's name.

Methinks you miss the point. The radical Hillary-or-else supporters were already planning to vote for McCain (or stay home or write in Hillary) before he chose a woman as VP. This is NOT a matter of flippant female voters voting for any woman. This is a determination from a group of mostly-women, that group being of as yet unquantified size (though initial projections are much smaller than their vocal advocates might suggest), to exact revenge on the Democratic party no matter what the cost to the country. Pure and simple.

I am not judging whether their action is right or wrong (though I do decidedly have an opinion). I am just making an observation.

So, if the Hilary die-hards are motivated entirely by anger at the Dems for not picking their gal they'd be equally ready to support a McCain/Leiberman ticket, eh? :-/
