As y'all might have guessed, my brain and body kinda-sorta compromised.
  • Thought about Fr. John's party.
  • Had a not-so-fancy-but special brunch of pancakes (Bisquick Is My Friend) and freshly-ground coffee (only one cup -- I was good).
  • Went shopping with Warren to the bread outlet, Pet Club, Costco, and Nob Hill to pick up much-needed grocery items. This is a less nasty trip than it sounds; the bread outlet is around seven minutes away from home, Nob Hill is around a five minute drive, and Pet Club and Costco are next to each other in the same shopping center, around 2-3 minutes from home.
  • Ate dinner -- a hero made with lunchmeat from Nob Hill and a pasta salad I'd picked up at the deli counter.
  • Went back to bed and mostly rested.
I'm too fatigued to read; it took a couple of hours before I had the energy to put the laptop unit on my lap and type this. My TiVo is recording Dr. Who from the SciFi channel. I hate Dr. Who, but my friend Morris asked me to record it for him until he and his wife, Lonny, have settled into a place where they can get the SciFi channel (they expect to be living in a hotel that doesn't get SciFi for at least a month). Either later tonight or sometime tomorrow night I'll figure out how to get Dr. Who off my TiVo and onto my hard drive so I can burn it to DVD (suggestions are welcome).

I don't have TiVo, but I do have the shows

When I looked at TiVo a couple of years ago it wasn't set up to make DVDs. That's one reason I went to a different brand DVR with hard drive, it =was= designed to burn DVDs. I can't do "season pass" type stuff, but my hard drive isn't my only storage medium. I can't say if anything has changed on TiVo in the meantime, or if you can figure out how to do something it might not have been designed to do.

I've got the first 8 SciFi Channel episodes transferred to DVD in LP (3-hour) mode, and eps 9-12 on my hard drive (waiting to be viewed, commercials excised and transferred to DVD). So if you can't figure out how to transfer your TiVo directly to DVD you aren't entirely lost - I can make you a copy of what I have.

OTOH, if you still have a VCR it might be easier to just connect it to the TiVo and make him a tape (if that would be acceptable to your friend).

Lastly, from what I've read, the eps are also available off the internet. I'm still on dial-up so I haven't looked up much details on this, but for anyone with highspeed connections it should be pretty easy. BitTorrent, perhaps?

The first TiVo/DVD-RW combo unit came out in late 2003 - the Pioner DVR-57H and DVR-810H. Since then there is also the Humax DRT400 & DRT800 and the Toshiba RS-TX20 & RS-TX60. All are TiVo's with built in DVD-R/RW drives for burning.

And I think it was 2004 when they introduced TiVoToGo, which allows you to move shows from a TiVo to a PC over a network. The files are DRM protected, so, officially, only specific DVD burning software will handle them. But there are tools to strip the DRM to access the standard MPEG-2 content, so any tool will work.

The 2005 season is scheduled to be release July 11th, including commentaries and Confidentials.

If they can't wait...

I have all of the 2005 season and up to ep 8 of the 2006 season (including Confidentials).

They fit on 3 data DVDs.

High quality rips from HD satellite feeds from the UK, mostly downloaded withing 24 hours of original broadcast.

Tivo Desktop, then Nero to burn it.

Yeah - TiVo Desktop for TiVoToGo to the PC over the network.

If you have trouble burning it, there are tools, like DirectShow Dump, which will strip the DRM off the .tivo file and leave a standard MPEG-2 file. And pretty much any PC-based too will handle that for burning.
