Finale trashed my PowerBook

I loaded the Finale 2006 DVD. It automatically rebooted my Mac.

Instead of my desktop coming up, all I see is a magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the screen (in what would be the top bar if it were to appear all the way across) and the screen's background pattern.

I have no idea what I should do to unhose my system. Any suggestions?

Try to cold boot it again and see if there's any change.

Next, try to boot from your OS CD. See if you can access your hard drive okay from there. There should be a disk utility on the CD too that you can use to check/repair.

Thank ghu I had my OS CD. I did a reinstall and it somehow magically fixed everything.

I went to Finale's tech support first. They blew me off. Then I tried reinstalling OS X 10.4, figuring (correctly) the CD would somehow Do The Right Thing and just replace whatever was missing. Somehow everything came up as if Nothing Had Ever Happened.

Go figure.
