For the curious...
Jul. 16th, 2005 03:23 pmI'd say I neither killed nor bombed. In other words, the Tonight Show won't be booking me anytime soon, but OTOH, I did get laughs.
Oddly enough, the biggest laughs seemed to be when I would drop into what I call "traffic reporter cadence." The best way to describe it is that there is a way people talk when they're doing traffic on the radio exclusive to that kind of reporting. The MC kept asking folks how traffic was. I said, "if he'd have asked me, I'd have told him [sliding into "traffic reporter deliver mode"] I found myself moving well coming up along northbound 101, hit a snag around highway 92, then continued at the limit up the peninsula, through Hospital Curve, onto the eastbound skyway and into downtown San Francisco." That had the audience howling.
The rest of the stuff got okay laughs, but today I learned I need to watch so I don't sound over prepared.
More later...must sleep so I can get to work tomorrow at 5am.
If you're in the SF Bay Area and want to see the next installment of this "impending train wreck," it's at the SFCC Clubhouse, 414 Mason #705 (at Geary -- the "Native Sons Building"), in San Francisco. The open mike showcase is Saturday nights starting at 6pm.

Date: 2005-07-17 09:45 pm (UTC)I could easily see an entire routine (say, 5-7 minutes) done as a massive traffic report parody. Possibly with interruptions, mixups, and other problems on the part of the stations etc. I'll bet you (particularly, not generically) could split sides with it because it would ring so true.

Date: 2005-07-18 06:29 am (UTC)"I went to the supermarket after work. Traffic was jammed on Aisle Five due to a mayonnaise jar spill. Crews are busy mopping up at the scene. To get around it, I had to take Aisle Six as an alternate route to get to the meat counter. Traffic moved well past the dairy case into the bakery section. There were a few slowdowns in the produce section as folks stopped to lookey-loo at the fresh fruit and vegetables. At the checkout, lights are on over registers 2, 3, 8, and 15 with about a three-cart backup. Once you get past the pay station, it's smooth sailing out the door and into the parking lot, where you can dump your groceries and go home!"

Date: 2005-07-18 06:39 am (UTC)Looks like you found yours.
I agree with redaxe.
Try anything...
How does a recipe sound done in TRC ("Traffic Reporter Cadence")?
Doing the laundry?
Forplay/Sex? (not necessarily graphic, tho.)

As for laundry, that's Warren's job. ;-)
Re: sex, part of my act is I don't do it 'cuz I'm a NERD. I'll also be talking about science fiction fandom and how one of our favorite panels is about having sex in outer space, all the logistics and stuff. "It's a topic we find fascinating because it's so foreign to us. Very few of us have been in a zero-G environment, and even fewer of us have had sex."
