Warren just came over to me a few minutes ago.

"Tomorrow is kind of getting to me," he said. "It's Father's Day, and I know you're thinking what I'm thinking."

"Yeah," I replied. "It's the day our respective brothers get honored for getting their girlfriends pregnant out of wedlock."

"Yeah," he replied. "I'd like to see something more appropriate instead, like 'Vasectomy Day.'"

Seems to me that the Sunday between JesusOfficialBirthday [or perhaps Winter Solstice...]and January 1 should be Solitaire's Day. I mean, there is Mother's Day, there is Father's Day, those who are married gete Anniversaries... those who are solo, that time of year can get -ugly-. A high school classmate's Harvard BA wasn't any use in a life involving a divorce, and extensive employment after shutting down the family business, and two or three years ago in that time of the year, he suicided.

"There's no place like home for the holidays..."

No Place as depressing when sitting alone and depressed, that is.... it gets really really REALLY ugly, the disconnect between all the Happy Family Crap and sitting alone in the house without employment sometimes getting notification from companies applied to that you're not the person offered a job--mostly they don't bother even with such notification being told how one should be Happy and surrounded by Happy Family and People all being Together.

Ptui

But I do sort of like the idea of Vasectomy Day.. except I can't see e.g. a Tubal Ligation Day. Sometimes abstinence does prevent reproduction.

I've got my own way of coping with that season. It's called "suck the money out of the radio employers."

I work. And work. And work.

One of the nice things about working in radio in a part of the country where nearly all your co-workers are goyim and you're not is they all want time off during a time period where, at best you have off from your day job anyway and are looking for something to do; at worst you are merely picking up bucketloads of "holiday pay" and overtime because the goyim don't want to work then.

Sometimes the goyish management is extra generous. For years I had a "bonus" where I was allowed to use the company phone to make all the long-distance calls I wanted. Every year I'd show up with my personal phone directory and start calling friends and family, starting with folks in the U.K., then going to the "morning people" on the east coast, progressing through the afternoon folks there, then the midwest, and then the west coast, Alaska, and Hawaii. I used to invite friends up to join in on the fun; we'd often have conference calls, joining up folks from Pittsburgh, PA with folks in Oregon and upstate New York.

Granted, my "coping" strategy isn't for most folks, but then I'm weird. :-)
