Or just buy the DVD set. It's only 30 bucks. And it's in anamorphic widescreen, meaning when you eventually get a high-def TV (if you don't already), it looks fantastic.
On the other hand, the sci-fi channel's broadcast quality (at least on my satellite connection) leaves a little bit to be desired: fuzzy, overcompressed.
The DVD set it The Business, especially at that price. The fact that it was only 30 bucks is the reason I'm a Firefly fan today. If it had been $75.00 like other TV series seasons, I would never have touched it.
> Since I never saw it originally, I want to catch it for free first before shelling out the $$$.
That's fine, that's a very sensible approach.
Here's what will actually happen:
You'll see the two hour pilot (which Fox, in their infinite wisdom, only aired at the end after they'd already axed the series-- Huh?), fall instantly in love, realize that you can't wait for Sci Fi channel and you must begin watching the rest of the episodes RIGHT NOW DAMNIT, and you will be on your way out the door to purchase the DVD set while the credits are still rolling.
The rest of us will just smile and nod knowingly. :-)
...except that I don't yet own the box set, with budgetary concerns and all. But it is as good as the ravers suggest. Really. Especially if you like words.... oh yes...
