I was a little extra productive during my KLIV shift. Not only did I leave three voicers on a slow news day, I left one extra to be run Friday.

It seems there's this little "filk" convention going on in Milpitas, and that's definitely our coverage area.

I'm sure George will be amused when he comes upon it.

After work I went to Cosentino's (yuppie grocer) and bought fixings for spaghetti with meatballs (I'm making it because Warren was craving it). I also tried to buy romanescu, but they were out.

I need to call the produce guy Monday.

Time now to nap while the sauce makes itself.

Still learning the sinisterpondial radio lingo here... Can you define "voicer" for me? Am I right in figuring out that it's a pre-recorded news item to be dropped into other people's news shows?

So what did you say about Consonance? (Want to get some idea of the style...) =:o}

P.S. No, I'm not planning to come over there and steal a valuable radio job from the market. Just nosey. =:o}

A "voicer" is a pre-recorded story that solely consists of the reporter's voice. A "wrap" is a pre-recorded story with someone else (usually an expert or a newsmaker) speaking in addition to the reporter.

In contrast, a "reader" is copy that doesn't call for sound to be played in the middle; the anchor just reads it, while a "sound story" consists of one or more "sound bites" stuck in with whatever's being read by the anchor.

Re: Consonance, I basically said folks were going to be getting together in the south bay to combine science, science fiction, and music. I also explained briefly where the term "filk" came from. I mentioned that the featured guests are coming from Singapore, Oregon, Illinois, and New York, and that local folks would also be performing. I said it started around 6:00, figuring anyone who was listening would show up to register a little before the first programming.

As for "valuable radio jobs," when I have one, you're welcome to try to steal it from me. :-)
