Why? So they wouldn't devour him and his kind?

I saw the clip on CNN at lunch. He could have lost an arm.

This man has my vote for Idiot of the Week.

He's lucky the lion had just had lunch. I could not get the video to play, but saw the screen shots. I suspect Leo was protecting his ladyfriend. Pity the poor guy has a tranquilizer dart hangover today. I am glad the zoo officials were enlightened enough to tranq the cat instead of kill it like those idiot cops in Palo Alto with the cougar.

It may not be so much a matter of enlightenment

As much as a legal matter... you see...

From the article:
He also said, "Come bite me" before one of the male lions attacked and bit the man.

See, as I understand it, that constitutes "consent to assault", the same rule that protects bar room bullies after they knock a few teeth out of the drunken idiot who say, "go on, hit me, I dare you".

Personally, I would have let the lions eat the man, as an act of kindness on both sides of the equation.

The article noted that he had jumped in because he was hearing voices.

K commented that most Southern Baptists and Methodists hear voices all the time. I noted that the language used in those two denominations does indicate that believers actually hear the voice of God on a personal basis. It took me a long time to understand that the language is symbolic, not factual. While I hold open the possibility of God speaking directly to me or any other human, this current incident certainly puts another spin on the question.

Who needs Romans, when the Christians feed *themselves* to the lions?

That's cat-sup, not ketchup!

It just occurred to me, scrolling through my friendslist, that in this instance you really should use the old-fashioned spelling of the condiment in your title.
