I haven't had anything alcoholic to drink in days.

I haven't had any sugar all day.

Despite this, I feel "hung over" and have for much of the day. In another 1.5 hours I need to leave for SF, and I'd rather not feel this way, as I need to be "minty fresh" from 2am-9:15am.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Barring that, what can I do to remedy it? Is there some kind of nutritional supplement I can ingest?

Hoom. Drinking enough water? *Retaining* too much water?

Sinuses?

I doubt it's the latter, as I'm in the midst of my first period in two months (when I said my whole body relaxed Tuesday, I wasn't exaggerating).

I'll try sucking down some water.

My sinuses always suck, but right now they're not too bad.

How is your caffeine intake?

Speaking of minty fresh at 2 AM, may I suggest not only additional water intake but a nice hot shower _turned cold at the end_.

How is your caffeine intake?

I've been nearly mainlining the stuff to stay awake since Friday morning, alternating with sleep.

That'll do it. Ration your caffeine intake. It stops working after about 16 hours in my experience, and drinking it within 8 hours of (planned) bedtime is asking for trouble.

Only drink about two cups of coffee worth (1 12-ounce soda can or a medium iced tea) in initial stages. Save the binge for when you "have" to reboot, i.e. when you know you'll miss a night of sleep.

I've found that iced tea nicely sets off the dehydration effects, although your mileage may vary.

The caffeine has been doing its job as planned, actually. I normally ration my caffeine intake, but when I got the call late Thursday afternoon to work Friday morning, I had no choice but to suck down a huge cup of the stuff Friday to be "perky" during my shift and to get home safely. I then went home and slept a heap.

I next ingested lots of coffee Saturday morning to stay upright during my shift. I had an emergency of sorts and had to leave right after I got off the air, drove home, showered, and crashed. I then had to be working in SF from 1am-9am (and allow an hour each way for transit!), so once again, Coffee Was My Friend.

Now that it's Monday and I don't have any pressing obligations, I can go back to my normal, much smaller consumption level.

Standard hangover cures like water, vitamin B, etc.
How are your sinuses doing?

I tried the water; it did help a little. I've been pumping vitamin B.

My sinuses could be better, but they've been far worse. The extra sleep has allowed me to heal from an ear infection that had my left eustachian tube swollen shut.

When I feel 'hungover' it usually turns out to be dehydration.

As it turns out, ordinary alcoholic hangovers are primarily caused by dehydration: alcohol is a diuretic.
