Apply-a-song-to-mundanity meme

Shamelessly snarfed from
sdorn, the challenge is to take at least a verse of a song, apply it to some aspect of mundane life, and add asides if you wish. Then, of course, repeat these instructions in the entry.
My choice: "Five O'Clock World" by the Vogues
Up every mornin' just to keep a job
(...or two...or three...)
I gotta fight my way through the hustling mob
(...unless I wind up commuting outside of rush hour)
Sounds of the city poundin' in my brain
(...not to mention the sounds of computer fans humming)
While another day goes down the drain (yeah, yeah)
(No comment needed here)
But its a five o'clock world when the whistle blows
(I thought that was the doorbell signalling food delivery!)
No one owns a piece of my time
(...try telling that to the CEO at my day job...)
And theres a five o'clock me inside my clothes
(...and it's getting awfully tight with her in them)
Thinkin that the world looks fine, yeah
(...because radio makes you use your imagination.)
Tradin my time for the pay I get
(...assuming I get paid, which sometimes doesn't happen)
Livin on money that I ain't made yet
(...and won't make till the next big boom out here...)
I've been goin tryin to make my way
(...a comment from the bowels of me...)
While I live for the end of the day (yeah, yeah)
(End of the day? I thought it began then!)
Cuz its a five oclock world when the whistle blows
(I can think of a few other things that blow...)
No one owns a piece of my time
(Sometimes that includes me...sigh)
Theres a long-haired girl who waits, I know
(...for me to come home and play with her, pet her, and let her stick her snout in my dirty shoes)
To ease my troubled mind, yeah
(...or what's left of it)
In the shelter of her arms everything's OK
(...okay, they're really her front legs, but I think of them as arms)
When she talks then the world goes slippin' away
(...as does my mind..."Deef! Neeyowee! Nyaaareee!")
And I know the reason I can still go on
(...is they really, really like me! [said a la Sally Fields])
When every other reason is gone, (yeah, yeah)
(...is because my dog is finally getting enough cheese)
In my five o'clock world she waits for me
(...because her water dish ran out)
Nothing else matters at all
(Mmmm...doggie fur...)
Cuz every time my baby smiles at me
(Gotta love those perfect doggie teeth)
I know that's it's all worthwhile, yeah
(Yeah!)
