This might sound kind of lame, but it's heartfelt and meant.

I've only met you in person a few times, but not a single one of those times were you ever without a smile to give and something friendly to say. It particularly meant a lot at Consonance, when I was really quite nervous of so many people I didn't know, and you were more than welcoming. You helped to make me feel like not so much of a stranger.

You're one of the people I'm glad I've met and I look forward to getting to know better.

And additionally, you're willing to go through the extra BS necessary to travel with your dog. Humans are better off when they have animals around, but our society has lost touch with that. We need to be reminded by people who will bring their animals into spaces where they usually aren't.
