Black Peppy

He was big and black; he had poofy hair
He had big dark eyes and a menacing stare
If you saw him coming, you’d best beware
of Black Peppy

Black Peppy was a poodle with a special charm
My grandparents got him at a puppy farm
If you tried to pet him, he’d chomp at your arm
that’s Black Peppy

He was a “Fifi” dog with a nasty gleam

He had manicured nails with a polished sheen

On his owner’s bed Peppy liked to nap
When he wanted out he would let out a yap
If you tried to walk him, he’d growl and snap

Black Peppy lived on fricassee and homemade stew
My grandmother washed him with the best shampoo
If you got too near him, he’d make you a chew
Toy, Black Peppy

When his hair was done he’d have big red bows
He had pom-pommed shoulders and a wet black nose

One day I went to visit I was made aware
My grandparents said he was no longer there
As for where they took him, hey, I didn’t care
No Black Peppy!

Oops. That was an approximate rhyme that I screwed up. Eep. Fixed in my master copy. Shows what I write like when I've had almost no sleep in a 48 hour period.

The tune is original. Think of "Big John" from the 1960s and you have an idea of the gist of what it's supposed to sound like.

Definitely got the "Big John" thing going.

But you know, somehow or other I just keep wanting to cram "miniature" (or not-cram "mini") into the space now taken by "standard" ;-) (Or even omit the adjective altogether, and let folks' experience of the breed speak for themselves.)

The only standard poodle I've ever known personally was a nasty bastard. Cemented my hatred of poodles pretty well.
