As I understand it, Al-Qaeda actively disliked the Saddam Hussein regime because it was a secular Islamic regime rather than a theocracy, and Saddam actively disliked Al-Qaeda because Al-Qaeda actively disliked Saddam.
I expect the truth is more complicated than that and not amenable to summary in a few words, but the idea that Al-Quaeda and Saddam Hussein collaborated is quite improbable.
