My neck is swollen. My throat is swollen. My face is swollen. The gland under my right eye is downright jutting out.

I went to Palo Alto Medical Clinic's Urgent Care today. They gave me a shot of Benadryl, a cortisteroid drip, and three prednisone tablets. Yuck. They also told me to take Xantax (ranitidine) and Benadryl (night) or Allegra (day). The swelling is only slightly down.

The doctor says I either had an allergic reaction to a food or pill/vitamin I ingested or I have lupus. She's setting me up with rheumatology. Turns out the lupus tests I had in June were positive, but unlike with other tests, a positive lupus test doesn't necessarily mean you have lupus.

One of my first cousins has lupus. The doctor kept looking at me as if to say, "You don't FIT the 'profile' of a standard person with lupus!" It tends to run in families. It also tends to have a higher occurance in people of African descent -- like Karen and me.

I did my radio shift anyway. I had to be at the station at 6pm, but I didn't actually have to go on till 7pm. My voice was (and still is) about an octave higher than usual, but luckily for me the owner prefers high, squeaky voices on women. :-)

The best part of the day was when Derrick, the anchor relieving me, gave me a date as to when the KARA sale will be finalized. I didn't know how I could afford a dog; now I do. :-)

Afte work I called my friend Sue, who got laid off from BroadVision the same day I did. She has a new sheltie pup (she's a "sheltie person") and she was soooo much happier than she'd been in ages! She's been trying to get a florist business going, and I think she may actually succeed in it. I hope so; not doing what you love for a living sucks (I'm there).

Meanwhile, I hope the doctors can figure out what's wrong with me and repair it.

The most recent Natural History magazine has a bit about various autoimmune diseases common in people genetically 'from' highly disease-prone areas. The people who got infected with all the standard stuff, young (frex, dysentery et. al. for those of Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi descent) never get the (for example, Crohn's disease) autoimmune diseases their lineage is otherwise 'prone' to. Only those descendants who grow up in relatively disease-free environs are subject to them. They mentioned lupus, too.

Just an interesting thought. Not that there's anything to be done for it NOW, but it might lead to some kind of treatment modality.

Good luck!

I hope they make the ick go away and find out what it is (in that order).
