Today at work I threw up.

I printed something off to read at home (wanting to get work done while avoiding puking on expensive equipment), and went home, where I threw up. Again.

I collected myself, then called my doctor. He prescribed an anti-nausea, anti-puking medicine (I don't have it in front of me, otherwise I'd tell y'all what it is). He also says if I'm still puking in two more days I need to call him.

Meanwhile I'm only pooping small amounts. I am concerned that things aren't going through my intestines as they ought to be. Yes, I'm getting lots of fiber. I've been mostly consuming fruits, whole grains, and yogurt. The only thing that seems to have stayed down today was some frozen Pinkberry yogurt I had as "dinner." (You know you need probiotics when the plain stuff tastes the best to you.)

I hope this isn't something more serious.

It could be a reaction of the Vanco or if you are still on pain meds, they some times slow things down.
Try taking a gentle stool softening type laxative. I find that some times helps.
*hugs* and healing energy sent your way.
PS Congratulations on the job.

Vanc is nasty, nasty, nasty mean stuff. If or when you can't hold down water, that supercedes the two days. You call him THEN.

If not the infection, then the cure. Both are awful. It's serious, okay? Respect the serious.

I used to get a thing kind of similar (but probably not identical) - my doctor explained it to me by telling me to imagine my intestinal tract as an out-of-control fire hose. The cure, strangely, was a muscle relaxant designed to target the digestive tract. Plus 3 days liquids followed by soft foods (BRAT) to which I added chicken soup.

Sometimes too much activity is a sign the system needs a rest, or so I've been told.

Wishing you well.

Given the problems that antibiotics like vancomycin cause, I would be unsurprised at diarrhea but throwing up is definitely Bad News. Generally speaking, I'd agree with [livejournal.com profile] kyburg, but YMMV.

I really hope you feel better soooooon.
