This nap has been interrupted by an earthquake

I didn't feel it. It was way too far to feel.

I didn't hear the warning sirens go off at Moffett Field.

I did notice when Warren woke me up to tell me there was a tsunami warning. He was expecting me to get called into one or both of my jobs. Luckily, that hasn't happened, so I can get back to sleep.

If I can get back to sleep.

My throat hurts. My nose won't stop running despite all the antihistamines I'm on. My neck is swollen like a football player's.

Warren wants me to see if I can go to Dr. James tomorrow instead of Thursday.

I'd rather do the appointment Thursday and have some "alone time" while he and his mother go off by themselves. I'm working a split shift with overtime that day, so I'll be up that way anyhow. I figure as a "worst case scenario" I could crash a bit at Dr. James' office till it's time to go to work, and as "worst case scenarios" go, that's a pretty good one.

My dear, I'd suggest that you see a physician. You sound like you have something rather nasty. The swollen neck is particularly worrisome and the sore throat has gone on too long.

Umm ... Lynn, at this point, you maybe ought to call your regular doc and make sure you don't have something like strep ...

As a major league cold and hay-fever sufferer I can tell you that the SWOLLEN throat is something entirely different and can not be assumed to be going away by itself. What does it say on the antihistamines? "If symptoms persist for more than 3 days"?

I'd skip the General Practice Dr. and go straight to an ENT (Ear-nose-throat) specialist if you are able to with your ins.

..Tsunami warning?????!!!!!! In california???!?!! That's a new one to me. I thought that the way the coastline is, a Tsunami would have to be twice as large as the Malaysian one to even get over most of the land, because of the cliffs / hills so near the ocean?

Depends on where you are along the coast. And the earthquake was fairly close to San Francisco. Basically there's this really thin band of 'in danger from a tsunami' for most of the coast with occasional spots where it goes further inland. But it's the new thing to be worried about.

Mostly, at the point when they detected the earthquake it was close enough that they couldn't wait around to see what the effects would be before they issued the warnings... and then they pretty quickly realized that there wasn't going to be a tsunami and cancelled it (like 15-20 minutes late as far as I can tell.)

I am not running a fever, which is why I suspect this is a viral thing that just has to run its course.

If I were running a fever I'd run, not walk, to my ENT.
