I've been on the phone with NINDS/NIH. They were the ones who referred me to Johns Hopkins, who in turn gave me the correct spelling for that special shunt (Ommaya).
Re: clinical trials, that was one route I'd already thought to check. Nobody is doing clinical trials on arachnoid cysts AFAIK. The clinical trials site is run by NIH, and the only study being done involving arachnoid cysts is on those on the spinal cord, which is not where his is.
OTOH, the rare diseases site is interesting. It does describe his condition. That one offers hope.
