A pain in both ends

Tomorrow I go in for a combination colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Today I am on a clear liquid diet. Yuck. I have a headache, but I can't take ibuprofen for it, and the Tylenol I took isn't making a dent in it.

Wish me luck.

I did a Silicon on "clear fluids" once prior to colonoscopy.

Not fun. I was so dizzy and out of it on Monday the Doctor's office that barely made it the restroom after the test.

It made the surreal experience of watching the procedure on a monitor even more surreal. The view combined a TLC thrill ride show with a medical show, as the view twisted and turned through my insides.

Good luck. :( Hope all goes well...

[livejournal.com profile] jonsinger went through this a little while ago - his journal may have useful details.

As I recall, he was allowed tea; might you try some clear caffeinated beverage and see if this helps.

good luck!

Great minds thought alike on that one. I tried drinking Earl Grey Green Tea and Lady Grey Green Tea yesterday to no avail. This was a full-bore tension headache.

Ugh. I had to do an upper endoscopy this spring. About all I can say for it is that the sedatives rocked. I was supposed to be conscious for the whole thing, but all I actally recall is about 5 seconds of tube down my esophagus. And they actually did me some good (I can swallow without being careful now).

Anyway, best wishes for an oblivious mind during and happy innards after.

Good luck! Hope it's over soon so you can get back to normal food.

Good luck! I had the Upper GI Endoscopy and a flexible sigmoidoscopy about 2 weeks ago, so I feel your pain.

I agree with the previous poster who reports that the sedatives they gave me really rocked. I remember them giving me one of them, and a little more looking around, and then nothing for about 3 hours. I was apparently reasonably coherent through it, though - called kyttn from my cell phone to tell her how I was doing, and I sounded "a little spacy", and I have no memory of this at all. Demerol and Versed - what a combination!

I had the same "cocktail" you did. I'll be posting about it in a few minutes.

Best wishes to you for a painless procedure and a speedy recovery. Is this just a routine one, or was there a problem? I had a colonoscopy in the summer of 2002 because I had weird stomach pain that couldn't be identified. First they did a pelvic sonogram, and they didn't find anything in either exam, and eventually the pain disappeared, and hasn't been back since. Hugs!

Both. I have been having almost perpetual diarrhea most of the time with occasional bouts of extreme "block the toilet" constipation. I have been having abdominal pains. Cancer runs rampant in my family; both my father and his father died from colon cancer. I've been considered "high risk" for cancer since my early 20s because it takes me less time to name the relatives who haven't had cancer than those who've had it.
