It's too early!

Since GAFilk I've been waking up before 9am. Rather, my body wakes up then, but my brain doesn't go online till around 10am or so.

This is frustrating. I've got work to get done, and being physically awake when my mind isn't fully functional is a waste of time.

Heh! Welcome to the club. That's how I spend the first three or four hours of most days... And the whole of some! =:o\

Today was good, though. Sunny at just the right time of the morning to wake me up properly, and again just as I was going to lunch. That kept me going through the dreary rainy bits in between.

Do you have any tricks you can apply to wake your mind up faster? Bright lights? Strong coffee? A comedy tape coming on automatically at 9am? (That's one of my favourites)

Bright light just hurts my eyes and doesn't wake me up. Strong coffee can get me into autopilot but doesn't make me functional. Any audio input distracts me into not functioning at all.

The only thing that has a chance of jolting me awake is really hot, spicy food, but the jolt is short-lived. Then I go back to being stupid, but for even longer than normal.

When I'm stuck with a job where I have to be on site when I'm not awake I schedule myself to do tasks that don't require a brain but make me look busy. I'll set up stuff to run on autopilot before I leave work, and/or I'll plan on pruning e-mail.
