I don't know if you saw the comments about Twitter way back when, but it is possible to configure so that the @whatever posts are not echoed to LJ, where they make sense to hardly anyone. It is also possible to suppress the '#' links at the end of each one, which are really annoying to anyone using keyboard navigation.
