Dr. James update
To quote, "I feel better than I did yesterday, for God's sake!"
He got taken into surgery at 7:30 instead of 11:30. He is feeling well, not at all nauseous, and is recuperating at his friends' house with "two drain bottles coming out of [his] shirt."His doctor is Michael Brownstein, who has been written up in the NY Times. Dr. James says Dr. Brownstein said the surgery went well. Apparently Dr. James has good pectoral muscles from working on all those clients; this helped Dr. Brownstein by giving him "something to work with," because the surgery is a kind of "art" where "they never know what they're working with until they get in there."
He told me he had a really good surgical team, 5 types of anesthesia -- 3 by IV, 2 inhaled. He said the surgical team was astonished -- he woke up with a big smile on his face and left the hospital. He says he's feeling in no pain and doesn't think he'll even need the Percoset he was given.
