2. I'm driving and can take at least one other passenger. If anyone is interested in riding down and back with me (I'm planning on leaving sometime the Monday before the con and going back the Monday after), please let me know here.


3. Despite my having been in-your-face about it to half the world, and despite my being on the "confirmed program participants list," because somehow Rick Weiss didn't know I was coming (even though I had asked if he'd needed help with the filk track), I don't have a concert. Yes, I am very upset about this. If anyone has a suggestion as to how I can somehow cause a concert, complete with audience, to happen, please speak up. I don't want to be disruptive, but it's really hard to establish yourself as a performer when nobody sees you doing it.

Let him know now with an explicit email; there will probably be a certain amount of rescheduling at the con.

I had the feeling that Rick was throwing the whole thing together on short notice a couple of weeks ago. Given how badly screwed up other things were on the program, I'm not surprised.

Contact Nick regarding SPL's stage. There may be an open slot. Dunno, I just decorate and decide what may work in the space provided. He's the stage manager/scheduler and is in the programming dept. (email address sent separate)

Just wondering if this suggestion worked out. It would give you a venue that is not "just filkers" and in a very open hall with lots of traffic (food, bar, Kaffe Klatche traffic).

Remember, Rick got handed this assignment at the last minute when Lee discovered she would be going in for surgery right before the con, so it's no surprise he's dropped a few balls. Just email him asap and let him know you want a concert. He likely forgot you were available.

Footnote - the surgery went fine and Lee is recovering nicely. But there's no way she would have been able to handle filking at Worldcon.

I did send Rick e-mail, which is how I found out I got left out. Rick couldn't fit me in, and IMHO made no attempt to try.

Maybe it could help if you could find a place in it - there's a copy of the convention schedule as it currently is on the LACon site, both in html (as on the page I linked to) and in text form delimited by commas. The latter may be the most useful if you feed it into a program that can separate columns that way (I used Word, in retrospect Excel might've been a better idea), you can find the filk column and follow it straight down. If you can find a place in the schedule for your concert, tell Rick about it.. and also tell him I made the suggestion so if he gets upset he can yell at me. (I have an interest in this - I want to hear your concert!)

Establishing oneself

Since when aren't you already established as a performer? (And a damn good one, too.) I wish I were as "established" in that way.

If all else fails, you can always post flyers and have a concert in your hotel room. Wish I could be there, but the cost is prohibitive for me.
