Is anyone besides me not running for Governor of California?

[identity profile] griffen.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not... although seeing who else has signed up, I'm considering it. ;)

[identity profile] mihrimah.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not famous enough to be the governor of California.

[identity profile] wcg.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not. I live in Maryland...

[identity profile] lysana.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I just don't have the money to spare.

Gray Davis.

Me, but that's only because I don't have the spare $3,500

Hey, I forgot to sign up. Maybe it's not too late!

I'm running as the candidate of the Responsibility Party.

Think they'll let me run from Toronto?

I'm not, but don't be surprised if I write in Lord Voldemort.

Couldn't be worse than some of the governors we've had.

If I had $3500.

If I had the drive and talent to govern. (oh wait that's not really a requirement is it.)

I'm not!

The California Deficit Solution!

[identity profile] chatworthy.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Not me (I live in Arizona).

However it was pointed out in an interview on NPR this morning that 10,000 $3500 filing fees would make a nice dent in the California budget deficit...

Why aren't you running? You've got some local name recognition, I'm sure your employer would give you a few free spot ads, and last but not least, I think you'd do better than most of the current candidate crop except maybe Gallagher.

[identity profile] figmo.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have to give up my shift for the duration of the campaign due to equal access laws.

IMHO that's a good reason to not run. That, and because I don't want to be Governor. Too many long, boring meetings.

I have better things to do with $3500, but it's tempting. Doesn't everyone want to join the circus?

I'd be moderately surprised to see fewer than 500 people in the race.

[identity profile] hellloooonurse.livejournal.com 2003-08-07 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not I. Even if I had the $3500, I can think of better ways to spend it. Useful things...

[identity profile] keristor.livejournal.com 2003-08-08 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not! It's a little too far to commute, although if there's a gubernatorial plane I might consider it...

I'm not.. but judging by the headlines this morning 158 people are... I feel sorry for the folks making up the ballot!

[identity profile] figmo.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As of 4:30 this afternoon the number was up to 193.

That's going to be one hefty ballot!

I'll say. Especially since I suspect we'll still be using the sheet of perforated paper approach. (Frankly I don't *trust* the electronic version unless it's set up to provide a paper trail anyway... but it's bound to be easier to implement than those booklets with spaces to poke holes through the ballot thingies...)

I doubt most of 'em are serious about wanting to be governor - a lot of this has got to be advertising and general amusement (though three thosand etc. is mighty expensive amusement).

[identity profile] harpwolf.livejournal.com 2003-08-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one reason to run. From the sound of things all those candidates are going to seriously break the obsolete voting machines were scheduled to be replaced in March!
